Your address

Where your site lives on showcaser.app, how a new showcase gets its address, and changing it

ST-9Your siteAll sections ↓

Every showcase has its own address: yourname.showcaser.app. You can also use a domain you own. See Your own domain (ST-10).

Open Site in the list (the sidebar on the iPad and Mac), the Address tab. The address under the showcase's name, at the top of the list, opens your live site.

Under Address, the tab lists your site's addresses as links; tap or click one to open it.

How a new showcase gets one

When you create a showcase, its address is made from its name: Maple Street Motors becomes maple-street-motors.showcaser.app. If that is taken, it gets the next free one like it, such as maple-street-motors-2. You see the address before you create it.

Changing it

Tap or click Change… beside your address. A New address field appears; type the name you want. Letters, numbers and dashes; at least three characters. The app checks as you type:

  • yourname.showcaser.app is free., or why it isn't, with a suggestion: Use yourname-2.showcaser.app Instead.

Then the check mark in the card's header. The app asks first: Move your site to yourname.showcaser.app? The old address stops answering, links people saved to it break, and anyone could claim it after. Choose Change Address, or Keep Editing. Cancel beside the address puts the field away.

Each name belongs to one showcase. If someone took the name a moment before you, the app says Somebody took that name a moment ago. Choose another.

Before you change it

Links people have saved, printed or shared with the old address stop working when you change it. If your site is already known by its address, consider keeping it and connecting your own domain instead: your showcaser.app address then sends people on to it.

Some short names are kept back for Showcaser itself, such as www, help and support.
