Starting a new listing, what its form holds from top to bottom, and how its name and web address are made
A listing is one thing on your site: a car, a painting, a tool. You add it with a few photos, fill in what you know, and publish.
Starting one
Tap or click + in the header of the listings page (Inventory, or what your first tab is called). A new listing opens straight in its form; on the iPhone it opens full screen, on the iPad and Mac beside the grid. With a keyboard, ⌘N does the same; on the Mac, so does File → New Listing, and you can drop photos on the listings page to start a listing with them. See Drag and drop (MAC-3).
One new listing at a time: until you publish or discard it, + and ⌘N bring it forward.
A new listing starts in your schema's first status, such as Available or In the shop.
What the form holds
From the top:
- Photos and video. The first is the cover. Take a Photo… (iPhone and iPad), Add from Files… and Add from Photos… add them. See Photos and video (LS-2).
- Status, and a Note for any status but the first. See Statuses and the status note (LS-3).
- Details: the fields of your listing schema that are on the website, such as Year, Make, Model and Price.
- Only in this app: fields kept off the site, if your schema has any. See Only in this app (LS-5).
- Summary: one line people see in the list.
- Description: as long as you like, with a little formatting. See Details, summary and description (LS-4).
- Any long-text fields your schema has, then, once the listing is published, Delete Listing….
Its name and its address
A listing's name, its headline, is made from the fields your schema puts in the headline: for vehicles, Year Make Model. Change which fields make it in the schema. See Headline, search and When empty (SC-3).
The address of its page on the site is made from the headline the first time you publish, and stays the same afterwards, so links to it keep working. A listing whose headline fields are empty has no title on the site; in the app it is named by the date it was added.
Publishing
Tap or click the check mark in the header (or press ⌘S). The ✕ beside it lets a new listing go, asking first if you added anything. Nothing reaches the site until the check mark.
The photos and video go up first, then the listing. Sending 3 of 12… shows how far it has got. See Publishing, hiding and deleting (LS-6).
The same manual ships inside the app. This section as Markdown
