What happens to every photo and video before it leaves your device, and what Showcaser will never do to a picture
Your photos are evidence that a real thing exists, in the condition it is in. Showcaser treats them that way.
Locations removed, on your device
A photo from a phone carries hidden details: where it was taken, when, with what camera. Before any photo leaves your iPhone, iPad or Mac, the app makes a fresh copy of the picture alone, with none of those details. So a photo taken at home never publishes your address. Videos are copied the same way, with their location and other personal details dropped.
This happens to every photo: in a listing, on a page and in the header.
What the app does to a picture
- Resizes it to three sizes, the largest 1,600 pixels on its long side, so pages load fast. A smaller photo is never enlarged.
- Compresses video to 720p, so it plays in every browser.
- Keeps it whole. Nothing is cropped. The Cards layout shows photos cut to a shape on the site, but the whole picture is kept, so changing the shape later loses nothing.
What it never does
- It never invents detail or sharpens with AI.
- It never generates or replaces a background.
- It never "enhances" a picture.
A plain, honest photo of the real object is worth more to a buyer than a perfect one of something like it.
Taking good photos
- Daylight, or even light, and the whole thing in the frame.
- The first photo is the cover: make it the clearest one.
- For art, photograph the piece straight on, so its proportions match its size; the Dimensions field warns when they don't. See Dimensions and View on your wall (LS-8).
The same manual ships inside the app. This section as Markdown
