Search, sorting and categories on the site

How visitors search your listings, the sorts they can use, and the category buttons above the list

ST-12Your siteAll sections ↓

Visitors find things on your site without leaving the page. Search and sorting happen in their own browser, over the listings already on the page, so nothing they type is sent anywhere.

In the Cards layout, the search box sits at the top of every page. Typing narrows the list as you type. It looks in:

  • each listing's name and summary;
  • its mark, such as Sold;
  • the values of the website's fields that make the headline or are marked Search filter or Sort by it, and of its Category field.

Values in fields kept only in the app are never searched. If nothing matches, the page says Nothing matches that with a link back to everything. A search stays in the page's address, so going to a listing and back keeps it.

The Gallery layout has no search box: its pieces are browsed by category and on the wall.

Sorting

Above the list (Cards layout), the count of listings and the sorts:

  • Newest, the default.
  • Lowest and Highest, named for your price field (Lowest price), when it is on the website and marked Sort by it.
  • Updated: the most recently changed first.

Categories

When your schema has a Category pick-list on the website, its choices become buttons above the list: All, then each category that some listing has, each with its count. Clicking one shows only that category, and each has its own address that you can link to. The app's listings page has the same categories, as a menu.

The built-in Tools & equipment and Artwork schemas have a Category pick-list. In the General schema Category is a text field; change its type to a pick-list to get the buttons. See Fields and their types (SC-2).

The same manual ships inside the app. This section as Markdown
