Private fields and the status note, sealed with your showcase's key so the site never shows them and the host can't read them
Some things about a listing are yours alone: what you paid, where it is kept, who has it on loan. A field marked with a lock in your listing schema is kept only in this app.
In a listing's form
App-only fields have their own section in a listing's form, Only in this app, under Details: Not on the site. It is sealed with your showcase's key before it leaves your device, so the host can't read it. The status note is kept the same way. See Statuses and the status note (LS-3).
The Artwork schema comes with one such field, Where it is: which wall, which rack, on loan to whom. You can add your own, such as Paid or Bought from. See Fields and their types (SC-2).
What sealed means
Before a listing is published, the app locks these values with your showcase's own key, on your device. What reaches the host is a sealed block it can't open. Only a device holding the key can read them again: your own devices, and anyone you have given the recovery key to.
Because the host can't read them, an app-only field:
- never appears on the site, in its search or in its category buttons;
- can't be part of the headline, a search filter or a sort;
- can't show a When empty, show… text.
Switching a field between the site and the app
The switch is in the field's editor in Inventory Settings: Show on the website. When listings already have a value for the field, publishing Inventory Settings says first how many listings will be re-saved, and about how long it takes.
Each of those listings is then sealed (or unsealed) on your device and saved again. A bar shows the progress, such as Sealing listing 4 of 12…. If you close the app part way, it finishes the next time you open the showcase. If some listings couldn't be saved, they are listed with Retry.
On the site and on the tile
In the schema's field list, a globe means on the website and a lock means only in this app. On the listings page, a status note shows on the listing's tile with a small lock to remind you it is private.
The same manual ships inside the app. This section as Markdown
