Taking a field out of your schema with or without its values, hiding one, and removing a status by moving its listings first
Removing something from your schema never surprises you: the app says what will happen to the listings that use it, and asks first.
Removing a field
In Inventory Settings, use the menu beside a field (•••), touch and hold it (right-click on the Mac), or open it, and choose Remove. Nothing is removed until you publish Inventory Settings with the check mark in the header. If listings use what you removed, the app asks then, in one sheet, Publish these changes?, for every field and status you removed.
For a field some listings have a value for, it says how many (12 listings have a value.) and offers three choices:
- Keep the values, unseen. The field is gone from the form and the site, but the values stay in the listings, out of sight. They come back if a field gets this label again. See Fields and their types (SC-2).
- Hide the field instead. The field moves to Hidden: Kept in every listing, shown nowhere.
- Delete the values too. Each of those listings is saved again without the value. This can't be undone, and the publish button turns red.
Under the choices, every listing with a value is listed, its name and on the right its value. Tap or click one to open that listing; the sheet closes, and your changes wait in Inventory Settings until you publish them.
Hidden fields
Hidden fields are listed under Hidden in Inventory Settings, under the fields. Tap or click Show beside one to bring it back with all its values. A hidden field still counts toward the 30 fields.
Removing a status
Use the menu beside a status, touch and hold it (right-click on the Mac), or open it, and choose Remove. Hidden can't be removed, and a schema always keeps at least one status besides Hidden.
If some listings have the status (4 listings are Lent out), choose where they go under Move them to when you publish. Those listings are listed under it, each with its status; tap or click one to open it. The listings are moved first, and the status is removed once every one of them has moved, so no listing is ever left with a status the schema doesn't know.
Re-saving many listings
Deleting values, moving listings, switching a field between the website and the app, and switching schemas all save each affected listing again. A bar shows the progress (Moving listing 3 of 4…), then 4 listings re-saved. If some couldn't be saved, they are listed, with Retry. If you close the app part way, it finishes the next time you open the showcase.
