Header photo

A photo across the top of your site's pages, under your name and tabs, and when a page shows a different one

A header photo runs across the top of your site's pages, from the edge of the screen to the line under the tabs. Your name, the search box and the tabs sit on it, over a soft shade that keeps them readable.

Open Site in the list (the sidebar on the iPad and Mac), the Layout tab. Under Header photo, Choose a Photo… (or Choose a Different Photo…) picks one from your files, and From Photos… from your photo library.

The photo goes up as soon as you choose it, with its location removed like every photo, and the site wears it when you publish the tab (the check mark in the card's header). Remove the Header Photo, then publishing the tab, makes the top of the site plain again.

Choosing a good one

A wide photo with calm sky or space at the top works best. The words sit on the top part of it, and on a phone the photo is cut to the screen's width, so keep what matters near the middle.

Where it shows

  • Your home page, pages and Contact page show the header photo.
  • A listing's page in the Cards layout shows that listing's own first photo across the top instead, a little taller, so the thing itself is the first thing a visitor sees.
  • A piece's page in the Gallery layout has a plain top, so the picture is never washed behind your name; the piece is shown whole below.

With no header photo, the top of every page is plain, in your theme's colors.
