Themes

Choosing your site's colors from the ready-made themes in Site, Layout, and how the app wears them too

ST-7Your siteAll sections ↓

A theme is your site's colors: the page, the text, the cards, the lines and the accent on buttons and links. It never changes the layout.

Open Site in the list (the sidebar on the iPad and Mac), the Layout tab. Theme is one row, a menu of the ready-made themes and your own. Pick one, then publish the tab with the check mark in the card's header (or ⌘S): the site wears your choice from then on. The ✕ beside it puts the old choice back, asking first.

Trying one on

Nothing reaches the site until you publish the tab. To see the result, publish, then tap or click your address under the showcase's name to open your site. Your own themes can be tried on the app first: see Making your own theme (ST-8).

The ready-made themes

  • Quiet: black and white. The photos do the talking.
  • Harbour: a cool blue for links and buttons.
  • Refined Calm: warm paper and a quiet green.
  • Paperwhite: warm paper and amber ink. Light only.
  • Nord: arctic blue-gray. Dark only.
  • Amber: warm amber, on paper by day and near-black by night.

Light and dark on the site

A theme with both a light and a dark side follows each visitor's device, and the site has a small switch so a visitor can pick; their choice is kept in their own browser. A light-only or dark-only theme has no switch.

The app wears your theme

The app is drawn in the theme your site is published in, light and dark as the site has them, while Settings → Themes → Wear the showcase's theme is on. Change the site's theme, and the app changes with it. With no theme chosen, or no showcase yet, the app is black on white, or white on black in dark mode. Turn the switch off to choose another theme for the app on this device, or make one; the site is not changed.

Your own themes

Under the ready-made ones are Your themes, made from a few colors of your own. See Making your own theme (ST-8).

The same manual ships inside the app. This section as Markdown
